Lower Middle Group (Grade 1)
After earning a bachelor’s degree in music and Japan studies from Macalester College, Caroline spent a few years working at an independent bookstore in St. Paul, Minnesota, searching for her true vocation. Since high school, she had worked with children in a variety of roles—as a camp counselor, classroom volunteer, piano teacher, teaching assistant for a child with special needs, one-on-one tutor, tutor supervisor, and substitute teacher—and always found these jobs to be the most joyful and personally fulfilling. When it became clear to her that becoming a schoolteacher was the next step, Caroline earned her master of education degree from the University of Minnesota and has found a perfect match for her philosophy and teaching style in the Lower Middle Group at Walden where she has taught since 2005.
Caroline values Walden’s progressive ideals and integrative approach to the arts, and she greatly enjoys the freedom and flexibility inherent in the teacher-collective model. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys singing, playing ukelele, sewing, and exploring the great outdoors.
