Arts Enhancement Project
The purpose of the Arts Enhancement Project is to enrich the experience of our students in Walden’s art programs. The project aims to improve our art programs in two ways: by increasing our students’ access to technology as a creative medium, and by providing our students with a more complete array of tools for creative expression including computers enabled with digital art software, cameras, instruments, and accessories.
Technical skills help students in creative endeavors and multimedia is an increasingly important element in both teaching and learning. By providing our students with a more complete array of artistic tools, we aim to expose each student to numerous ways of playing music (ukulele, guitar, piano, glockenspiel, drum, etc.) and creating art (multimedia computers, video, and cameras). Every Walden student participates in both music and art class twice per week during the school year.
Our Music teacher, Dr. Harry Gray, earned his master‘s degree in music education as well as his PhD in music theory from Northwestern University. He has also completed a three-summer training course in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education. Walden’s Visual Arts teacher, Susana Aragon, brings over thirty years of experience teaching and exhibiting art, including multimedia works, in the United States and internationally. Both teachers lead Walden’s students in developing both skills and appreciation for the arts from kindergarten through sixth grade ensuring that each student receives the maximum exposure to all of the tools we offer throughout their time at Walden.
