Admissions Process

We welcome inquiries about admissions at any time. Please contact VickiLee Edge at admissions@walden-school.net or 510-841-7248 for any questions not covered here, or for information about limited openings for 2017-18. Here are the steps for finding out more about and applying to Walden.

1. Sign up for a tour and/or information session

Tours are held on most Tuesday mornings, October through January. Information sessions are held on two Saturday afternoons, November 4, 2017 and January 6, 2018. Click to learn more about Walden tours and information sessions or to sign up for a tour or information session.

2. Complete an application and include $65.00 fee

Walden Admissions Application

Applications will be available at tours. We have a courtesy application due date on Friday, December 15, 2017 and a final due date of Thursday, January 19, 2018 (common EBISA date). Walden will accept and consider applications after this deadline, but will give preference to applications filed by the deadline.

3. Ask a current teacher to fill out a recommendation form

Walden uses the standard East Bay Independent Schools Association (EBISA) recommendation forms. If your child is home schooled, an adult or mentor who has worked academically with your child in a group setting can fill out the form. These forms also have a courtesy due date of Friday, December 15, 2017 and final due date of Thursday, January 19, 2018.

Be sure to sign and date the recommendation before giving to your child's teacher. The recommendation forms are confidential and should be mailed or faxed by the teacher to Walden Center & School at: Walden Center & School 2446 McKinley Avenue Berkeley, CA 94703 Fax: 510-845-4609

4. If applying for financial aid, complete separate applications

For new families the internal Walden financial aid application, online SSS application, 2016 Federal Income Tax Return, 2016 W-2s, and IRS form 4506T are due Thursday, January 19, 2018. The 2017 Federal Income Tax Return is due Friday, February 2, 2018. For more detailed information about financial aid and the internal application click here.

5. Child visit

Once we receive an application, we will schedule an observational child visit. Lower Group applicants will be invited to participate in a classroom environment for approximately one hour on a Saturday. Older children will join a Walden classroom of their peers for approximately 3 hours. We do not administer any readiness tests.

6. Notification of admissions decisions

Decision letters will be mailed to applicant families on March 15, 2018. This date is the same for all East Bay Independent Schools Association members.

7. Enrollment contracts and payments due March 23, 2018
